Installation view at the show ESPECTROGRAFIAS: MEMORIAS E HISTORIA, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo - MUAC, Mexico City (Images taken by Francisco Caviedes)
Curated by José Luis Barrios, Helena Chavez MacGregor, Pilar García, Sol Henaro y Jorge Reynoso
FROM THE BSR SERIES, 2009-2010
I took an anarchist library into the museum as an art installation. The books got catalogued, cleaned and fumigated in order to protect the permanent collection of the museum. Installation with two videos in black and white, transportation boxes with a part of the Biblioteca Social Recontruir anarchist books and inventory on paper
Channel one: Documentation of the organization of an anarchist encounter in collaboration with Tobi from the BIBLIOTECA SOCIAL RECONSTRUIR - BSR held at the FRENTE AUTENTICO DEL TRABAJO - FAT.
Channel two: Video of a trip searching for the first anarchist manifestations in Mexico and visiting one of the north american libraries that hosts primary information of the Mexican anarchist movement.
Paper on wall: Inventory of the Biblioteca Social Reconstruir’s anarchist books, made by the restoration staff when the books arrived to the museum.
Two transportation boxes from the museum: containing the inventoried, cleaned and fumigated books of the Biblioteca Social Reconstruir. Everything that enters the museum gets fumigated to preserve the museums collection from alien bugs. These services would rather cost a great sum of money if hired outside of the museum. This way was free.
